Meet Larecia

Larecia Tucker is running to be the Cook County Board of Review Commissioner for the 3rd District. She is the current Assessor Clerk for Rich Township, a United States Army Veteran, a lifelong Southland resident, happily married for 25 years, and a proud mother of three.

Larecia is running to bring common sense ethics reforms to the Cook County Board of Review to ensure that homeowners and small businesses aren’t stuck paying higher property taxes while big businesses and political insiders pay less.

Decades of mismanagement at the Board of Review created a tax burden that disproportionately falls on homeowners. This tax burden is most harmful to middle-class communities of color where every dollar unnecessarily spent on taxes is a dollar that wasn’t invested, a dollar that didn’t support small and local businesses, a dollar that wasn’t saved for college. Unethical governance creates unfair systems that harm the public.

Larecia knows this firsthand. In 2012, Larecia and her family had to move out of their Park Forest home of 14 years because of an increasingly unaffordable tax burden. As it stands, Larecia’s opponent hasn’t faced a challenger in 19 years. Over 80% of his political contributions were from tax lawyers appearing before his office and he’s had three employees sent to prison for bribery.

Larecia’s platform for the office is simple: transparency, fairness, and accuracy. Two priorities for the office would be to institute common sense ethics reforms like prohibiting political contributions from parties that have business in front of the Board of Review and to establish and publish guidelines for the appeals process.
